It is a strenuous technique of creating pottery by just not using the clay as it is
traditionally created; but this intricate craft is created by using quartz and glass
wool chiefly. It is a tedious process to craft blue pottery casks out of raw material
and thus takes a period of days to carve out this smooth and beautiful pottery. As
for the name, it derives it from the diverse use of warm blue color to decorate the
pottery. Nearly at the time of inception of the art people learned to produce blue
color by mixing two chemical components and thus started decorating their pots
in blue which was a strikingly new discovery. The technique is considered to be of
Turko-Persian origin and was brought to India by Muslim chiefs and later was
popularized by the Mughals who used it for ornamentation of their monuments.
After living many glorious centuries in India the art started towards declination, it
was when it received royal patronage by the ruler of Jaipur and thus stayed in
Jaipur, by whose geographical indication it is still known. The pottery made of this
technique is then hand painted, giving it a beautiful outlining and intrinsic
patterns. The art can be evidently found in many Indian palaces, mosques and
monuments of ancient origin.
